In 'Killer Movie,' more famous = less time to live
Posted By Tufsoles on April 28, 2008 at 5:06 pm | For More News & Media
Spoliers (please highlight to read)

One of the pleasures of Jeff Fisher’s ‘Killer Movie’ is watching the order in which the young, gorgeous characters get picked off. You’ve got Leighton Meester (omg Blair Waldorf from ‘Gossip Girl’), Robert Buckley (omg that stone-cold fox Kirby from ‘Lipstick Jungle’) and even J.C. Chasez (omg Chace Crawford’s boyfriend - kidding!), plus a gaggle of other hotties and hunks.

In some horror movies, the kids die in order of sinfulness, or recklessness, or pure prettiness. In this one, they die in order of… fame!

Chasez is the first to disappear. Okay, he doesn’t die, but he storms off the set of the high school reality show that is the focal point of the movie and is replaced by the less-musical and more-actory Paul Wesley.

Then it’s Leighton’s turn. She’s arguably as famous as JC, but, hey, she was never in a band with Justin Timberlake. We asked her to describe her character. ‘I mean, I don’t want to give away too much,’ she said. ‘She is… not long for this world?’

Four words: Worst. Motorbike. Ride. Ever.

Buckley gets more breathing time. His gory end is buried somewhere in the middle of the flick, even after the frigid cheerleading coach (Jennifer Murphy, a former Miss Oregon) has an ‘accident’ in wood shop. (‘That was actually a real table saw,’ she told us.) But then again, Robert made this movie long before the ladies of NBC and the world were gasping over his flawless torso.

Which - spoiler alert! - is right where he gets it.

Day of Silence greeting from Lance
Posted By Tufsoles on April 25, 2008 at 2:18 pm | For More News & Media
Dear Day of Silence participants,

I am thinking of you all today as you remain silent to bring attention to anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools. This year’s Day of Silence is especially important as we remember Lawrence King, who was tragically killed just a short time ago.

The work each and every one of you is doing is so important to ensuring safe schools for all students. I am very proud to have played a part in this year’s Day of Silence and to join you and the hundreds of thousands of students across America for this important action and dedication.

Together, we can put an end to the silence!

On behalf of GLSEN, I thank you for your participation.

Best,
Lance

Bass Vows to 'Stand Up' to Discrimination
Posted By Tufsoles on April 18, 2008 at 10:09 pm | For More News & Media
NEW YORK (April 18) - Lance Bass doesn't want others to stay silent as he did.

So he's made a public service announcement for the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN). The spot, which will be distributed over the Internet Friday, debuts in advance of the 11th annual National Day of Silence on April 25, when students take a vow of silence to protest bullying, harassment and discrimination in schools.

"I think it's time for me to stand up ... and help educate, because I'm lucky enough to have been given a voice to be able to talk and grab the attention of people," said the 28-year-old singer, who is gay.

"Everyday, thousands of students are silenced. They're silenced by fear, they're silenced for being who they are. ... They're brothers, they're sisters, they're gay, they're straight, they're you, they're me."

Bass, who recently completed a stint in the Broadway musical "Hairspray" and released a memoir, said the advertisement is meant to honor Lawrence King, a 15-year-old boy killed by another student in February because he arrived at school in feminine attire.

"I heard about Lawrence on the news, and it was just incredible to me that kids that age that would have such an issue ... with the subject of being gay," said Bass, who was part of the boy band 'N Sync. "It also shows me that these kids don't - they don't learn (bigotry) on their own. ... They're being told by older siblings or family members or other fellow students."

Bass - who joined 'N Sync in 1995 with Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick - announced in July 2006 that he's gay. It took him a while to come out. ('N Sync went on hiatus in 2002 and has virtually disbanded now that Justin Timberlake's career has taken off.)

"I was very scared of ruining my four best friends' careers," he said. "The ignorance in me thought that if I did reveal that, that our whole life would crash and the group would end because everyone would hate us. But now I see how stupid that was, and I wish I could go back and be able to tell the world who I really was.

"And I think it would have been fine. My fans have always still stood by me, and they haven't changed. And I think it would have been great to be able to come out (at) the height of like the 'N Sync heyday - I think it could have helped a lot of people."

On a lighter note: Will there ever be an 'N Sync reunion?

"There's always a chance that 'N Sync will do another album," he said. "I am totally game, I would love to. I mean, the best times of my life were with those guys."
